John D. Hoggs, Ed. S “Coach Hoggs”

Founder of the New Hope Foundation

The late John D. Hoggs commonly known as “Coach Hoggs” was the founder of the New Hope Foundation established in 2002.  He spent his long-term career as an educator in the local area public school system and was a well-known coach with impressive records.  He was an alumnus of the New Hope Rosenwald school as well as many of his family members.  Coach Hoggs recognized the significance of the New Hope school well before the notoriety that was being bestowed upon these historic schools.  He worked tirelessly to get the school listed on the prestigious “National Register of Historic Places” in 2002. 

After becoming ill, the Foundation paused for several years as well as the preservation and maintenance of the school.  He recognized that school was beginning to deteriorate due to neglect and that became very concerning.  Consequently, Coach Hoggs began the quest of soliciting board members to reestablishing the foundation knowing that his health would not allow him to be actively involved. The New Hope Foundation was reorganized in 2013 under new management a few months prior to his passing.  The foundation was reestablished with a simple mission “Restore the Historic New Hope Rosenwald School and preserve its legacy for future generations”.
